So you’ve taken the plunge and gotten your video production company to produce a killer animated video that quickly explains what your business does. So now what? It’s in the perfect format for sharing on video sites, but what if you want to take it on the road to give a presentation? Or show it to someone on your Blackberry or iPhone when you’re standing in line at the movies?

Before your video production company signs off on the job, make sure you’re going to be able to use the animated video in different settings. Here are some points to keep in mind:

High-resolution (e.g., Quicktime) – A high-resolution file is perfect for showing your animated video on a larger screen, whether you’re on stage giving a presentation, or manning a booth at a trade show.

Low-resolution (e.g., MP4 or FLV) – Smaller files are ideal for the on the web, and are ideal for your landing page. They also travel nicely on your smartphone, whether you’re networking on the fly or giving a sales presentation to a prospective client. An animated video demonstration makes a very powerful – and memorable – impression on your audience. After all, people remember 58% more information when they’ve seen it on video, versus reading it or just hearing someone talk about it.

YouTube – You’ll use one of the low-resolution file formats for YouTube, but there are other steps that will optimize your video for maximum results. For example, by using the script of your video as closed-captioning text, any keywords in your video will be indexed by the search engines.

Wistia – Wistia is a premium web hosting service, and one of our partners here at Switch Marketing. They accept a variety of video formats, optimize them for their service, and then provide you with detailed analytics (“heatmaps”) of each specific viewer and their responses (such as whether they rewound or fast-forwarded any particular sections). They also show aggregate data of your overall results.

As a bonus, if you embed your Wistia-optimized video on your website, it will always display properly when viewed on a smartphone or other mobile device. Wistia also creates a video sitemap that will help your videos rise to the top of the search engine results. This is important now that more people are now searching specifically for videos.

Aspect ratio – Aspect ratio refers to the width of a video in relation to its height. The two most common formats are 16:9 (ideal for sites like YouTube) and 4:3 (ideal for your landing page).

We hope this gives you some new ideas for how to make the most of your video! Just be sure you have the right format for the setting.

As an experienced video production company, Switch Marketing knows to provide our clients with high-resolution and low-resolution versions of your video, in both 16:9 and 4:3 formats. We optimize it for YouTube and provide the script for closed-captioning. We‘ll also optimize your video for Wistia, and even pay for your first two months of service.
